I was fortunate to create this lettering for Yosi Sergent and the Get Out The Vote project.
A portion of the preliminary sketch used as a template layer for the finished lettering.

a formal wedding invitation for elizabeth and christopher who were married this summer at the historic
hotel du pont in delaware. we designed their
save the date last year and carried over the regal shades of gold and eggplant as well as the subtle diamond pattern onto their invitation package and day of materials.
the invitation suite was printed on metallic ivory paper. guest names, even funny nicknames, were handwritten onto the gold metallic belly bands by melanie from
gracefully addressed for that extra special personal touch. the invite was adhered to a gold metallic backer to achieve a framed look and make it feel like the most important piece of the package. the smaller reception and response card were tucked neatly into the band to create an elegant layered effect. the etched entreƩ animals and flourished frame designs both added some unexpected whimsy to an overall elegant set. metallic gold ink was used for the return address and melanie also addressed the outer eggplant envelopes in gold.
we have lots of coordinating day of materials from this wedding to share with you in the coming weeks!

vera + cameron will be wed this august with an afternoon ceremony in rhode island. like their
save the date, they loved the idea of a typographic and minimal design with a small organic touch. we created a solitaire letterpress invitation in charcoal gray, which included a website for guests to rsvp. each card was mailed in a black envelope, hand-addressed in silver ink by melanie from
gracefully addressed.

Earlier this year I worked on a logo project for My Social Brand.
http://www.my-social-brand.com/
What made this a challenging logo to produce was the client request that each word be surrounded by interlocking talk bubbles. After a concept sketch was selected for vector I did some additional sketching to figure out the rough shape and position of the individual letters. The sketch was imported to Illustrator to use as a reference guide. I had to make numerous adjustments during the vector drawing process as the logo was going to used for repro from small to large sizes. I quite often view the logo in reverse to avoid any odd contrast.

happy forth of july all! lauren + john had their own fireworks at their wedding this past may! lauren, a graphic designer herself, came to us looking for a traditional and elegant wedding invitation suite with a touch of art deco. the couple met as teens during their summers down at the jersey shore and share a love for big band music and all things classic. we brought the feel of the seashore into the suite with light coral metallic pocket folders and envelopes. the invite was letterpressed in charcoal gray and blush pink along with a blind debossed art deco pattern background to give it some texture. the insert cards were printed in 2-color and stacked nicely into the pocket. all of the envelopes were hand painted in charcoal gray gouche by our calligrapher,
helene gaffin.

christina + adam will be married this spring at st. luke's greek orthodox church followed by an outdoor, black tie reception at
the water works restaurant in philadelphia. this elaborate invitation suite included a letterpress invitation, reception card and mailing envelope along with a full color rsvp postcard, directional card, envelope liner and tag. they loved the idea of a stacked package, which revealed layers of flourishes and stripes. with the combination of the various patterns and muted color palette we were able to achieve a beautiful balance of masculine and feminine design.
the formal invitation was personalized with a vintage philadelphia postcard style rsvp and playful tag. the package was neatly wrapped with a soft lace band and finished with a single raffia bow and tag (their wedding date of 5.5.12 was printed on the front which mirrored their first date of 5.5.09 on the reverse). the mailing addresses were hand painted in charcoal ink by the fabulous
helene gaffin.
we loved working with the mix of these design elements and are excited to work on their day of materials!

This is a little practice piece I did with a Pilot Plumex fountain pen. I have been practicing while recovering from hand surgery last week.
Before my practice session tonight I altered the pen nib to a shape that can easily float on the paper surface with little preassure. Instead of a pointed nib I sanding the tip to an angle shape. I then burnished the sharp edge by rubbing the nib on a flat piece of aluminum until it was smooth and did not tear the paper fibers. After several attempts with the fountain pen I had a composition to scan and recreate as vector lettering. The pen now writes like a Speedball nib.
